  2. Frostbite – Introduction What is Frostbite? When exposed to extreme temperatures, the skin and tissues beneath it may become frozen, leading to the development of frostbite. The most susceptible areas of frostbite are the hands, feet, nasal and earlobes. If the skin appears white or gray-yellow, is extremely cold and has a waxy or hard texture, it is likely to have frostbite. Additionally, the skin may experience itching, burning or numbness. Severe or severe frostbite can lead to blisters and hardening of the skin, resulting in redness and pain as the area thaws.

  3. Frostbite – Stages of Frostbite If you get frostbite, there are three different types of stages:- Frostnip, pins and needles, and numbness. Frostnipis when you feel cold, sore, and painful, while pins and needles are when you feel numb. If you get frostbite in the second or third stage, get medical help right away so you don't suffer any long-term damage.

  4. Frostbite – Signs and Symptoms Signs and symptoms of frostbite include: First, you'll feel cold and prickly, like your skin is on fire. Then, you'll feel numb, and your skin will look like it's hard or waxy. You'll also feel stiff and stiff, like your joints and muscles are locked up. And in the worst cases, your skin will blister after it's been re-warmed.

  5. Frostbite – Causes Causes of frostbite include: It's usually caused by being exposed to cold weather, but it can also happen when you come into contact with icy water, metal, or other cold liquids. You can get frostbite if you wear clothes that don't protect you from cold, wind, or wet weather, or if they're too tight. Plus, if the air temperature drops below 5 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 15 degrees Celsius), even with slow winds, frostbite can happen in as little as 30 minutes on exposed.

  6. Frostbite – Actions to be taken Gradually warming the affected skin is key to treating frostbite. To do so:- Keep your skin safe from further damage. If you are outside, warm your frostbitten hand by tucking it under your armpit. Cover the affected area with dry gloved hands and do not rub it or rub snow on it. Stay indoors and take off your wet clothes. Warm the affected areas by placing them in warm water. Wrap or cover the other areas with a warm blanket to protect them from the cold. Do not thaw the affected areas if there is a chance that they will freeze again. If they are thawed out, wrap them to prevent them from freezing again. Avoid direct heat sources such as stoves, heat lamps, fireplaces or heating pads, as they may cause burns before they reach the numb skin. Do not walk on the affected feet or toes, as this may further damage the tissue.

  7. Frostbite – When to call a doctor Call for emergency when:- Large blisters will form on the affected skin one to two days after exposure to frost. Frostbitten skin discoloration is caused by the death of skin cells when exposed to cold temperatures. The skin may develop a hard, thick, black coating (called a “carapace”) that will eventually come off. WhatsApp Us On +91-9999665959
