  2. First Aid – Introduction What is First Aid? • Having a first-aid kit on hand can help you respond quickly to injuries and emergencies. Make sure you have at least one at home and another in your car. • Keep your kits in places that are easy to find and out of the sight of young children. Kids old enough to understand what the kits are for should know where they go. You can buy first-aid kits from many drugstores or build your own.

First Aid – Aims of First Aid The aims of first aid are:- • The goal of first aid is to save lives. • To do this, you need to make sure the person who has been hurt stays stable and doesn't get worse before medical help arrives. • This could mean moving the person away from any potential harm, using first aid skills, keeping them cool and comfortable, and putting pressure on the wound to stop it from bleeding. • You can also help the person recover by putting a bandage on the wound.

First Aid – Basic supplies in Kit Basic supplies in First Aid Kit If you have a wound, here's what you need: adhesive tape, antibiotic ointment, antiseptic solution, towelettes, bandage strips, instant cold packs, cotton balls, cotton tipped swabs, disposable latex or synthetic gloves (at least two pairs), duct tape, gauze pads, roller gauze, first-aid manual, petroleum jelly or lubricant, plastic bags, safety pins, scissors, tweezers, soap, sterile eyewash, thermometer, triangle bandage, turkey baster, bulb suction device, syringe, medicine cup, or spoon.
