  1. TreatingIDAwithFerrousAspartoGlycinate IronDeficiencyAnaemiainshortIDAisoneofthemostcommonnutritionaldisordersworldwide.Thisnumberishugeandisalmostone-halfofanaemiacases. AccordingtotheWorldHealthOrganization(WHO),thisIDAwithhaemoglobinlevels<11g/dl,isoneoftheleadingcausesofdisability(UNU/UNICEF/WHO2001). TherewasaninvestigationinwhichitwasstudiedhowsafeoralFerrousAspartoGlycinateandFerrousAscorbateinpregnantwomensufferingwithirondeficiencyanaemia(IDA).Inthisstudy,researchersgathered73pregnantwomenat12to26weeks’ gestation.Thegroupofwomenweredividedintotwoarms.WomeninonegroupwasgivenFerrousAscorbatewhereasanothergroupwastreatedwithFerrousAspartoGlycinateforaperiodof28days. Onday14and28,themeanriseinhaemoglobin&Ferritinlevelswasevaluated.ThestudyfoundthatasignificanthigherlevelsofFerritinandhaemoglobinwerefoundinthegroupwhoweretreatedwithFerrousAspartoGlycinateascomparedtothosetreatedwithFerrousAscorbate.SoitwasconcludedthatFerrousAspartoGlycinateisaneffectiveironaminoacidchelateinmanagingIDAinpregnantwomenascomparedwithFerrousAscorbate.Inspiteofthesefindings,weneedalargescaleclinicaltrialsarerequiredtoconfirmthefindings.
