  2. Definition • Any larger polymeric compound(Protein, nucleic acid,polysaccharide,lipids)produced by living organism derived from microbes ,plants and animals.

  3. Types of Biopolymers • Xanthan Gum • Melanin • Adhesives • Polyhydroxy Butyrate Aim: Design new biopolymers 1.Replace the synthetic polymers 2.Increased yield and decreased cost

Plan & Discussion • Aim: For commercial production of xanthan gum X.campestrisgrown in inexpensive and plentiful carbon source • Wild type X.campestriscan efficiently utilize glucose, sucrose and starch but not lactose as carbon source • WHEY • Waste by-product of cheese making process consists of water,lactose,protein,minerals and low molecular weight organic compounds • In Dairy Industry disposal of whey is a major problem • Release whey in rivers and lakes can deplete the amount of oxygen and kill organisms • Transport landfill is expensive and contaminate the groundwater
