  2. 1: BEDS WITH STORAGE • Platform storage beds are platform bedswith storage devices underneath them. Platform storage beds are a step in the more economical direction. While the precepts of fengshui recommend against objects being placed under the bed (because they disrupt energy flow, thus making for fitful sleep), the precepts of modern living in tight spaces requires space to be used economically.

  3. 2: UTILIZE THE SPACE • Think about it: if your bed is raised up off the floor, there is a lot of empty space left over. Now, the reason you are off the floor in the first place is mainly to keep you separated from critters; to keep you at a level where dust settles less frequently, thus allowing you to breather more smoothly; and to put you at a warmer point in the room (heat rises.) But if there are inanimate objects under the bed, do you think those objects will require those conditions? Of course not. Why not utilize the space?

  4. 3: PLATFORM BEDS WITH DRAWERS • Platform beds with drawers come in a few basic formats. Some platform beds with drawers have framework that allows the drawers to be attached to the bed system, even if you move the bed. These act like conventional drawers - more like a dress-and-bed combo. These are wonderful for storing things more permanently and privately.

  5. 4: CASTERS AND SLIP UNDER THE BED • The other option is to have drawers that roll on casters and slip under the bed where they are out of the way. These drawers can be moved all the way across the room, if need be.

  6. 5: FULL STORAGE BED • Unfortunately we all seem to have far too many belongings for the space we live in. A great way to keep this out of sight and safe is with a full storage bed.

  7. 6: MANY THINGS COVERABLE • Whether you are furnishing a main room or a guest room, space under the bed should not be wasted. When you realize how much you can put in the drawers of a storage bed you will wonder why you didn't install one before.

  8. 7: TRIED AND TESTED DESIGN • The full storage bed comes in two basic designs. The first is the traditional design with drawers which pull out. This is a tried and tested design and will not let you down.

  9. 8: DEEP DRAWERS EITHER SIDE • If you are choosing the drawer option then you can either have two deep drawers either side, which is great for storing bulky items such as spare duvets and pillows, or you can have shallower drawers and have twice as many. This will give you four drawers each side. If you are storing regularly needed clothes then this is probably a better option for you.

  10. 9: MEASURE YOUR SPACE • Be sure to measure your space carefully as you do not want to find that you cannot access, or it is very awkward to access, your storage because the bed is too close to the walls.
