The first underwater tunnel was built in England in the 19th century. Over the years, the technology has been developed further and is now being used in several countries for many purposes. A subsequent and innovative improvisation of the concept is the construction of underwater aquariums. These are nothing but large aquariums with tunnels made of acrylic glass running through them showcasing a lot of aquatic life around. 04.

  3. These are huge attractions to people not only of the novel experience of walking through water but also because it enables them to watch some unique and rare aquatic species. It is exciting to see water all around and also be very close to nature. They also provide a wonderful opportunity to understand more about sea and ocean life. The first underwater aquarium in the world was housed in the London Zoo. Following this, several countries now boast of underwater aquariums and tunnels across them. The United States has nearly 10 aquariums while the United Kingdom has four. The UAE, South Africa, Japan, Denmark, Germany and France have their own spectacular aquariums. The Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo has the largest collection of sharks and a unique suspended aquarium. There are a few underwater aquariums in India but Chennai has the distinction of the first underwater tunnel aquarium.

You could take the tour either by walk or through a walkalator.
