  1. The Backbone of Universal Development - The Sustainable Development Goals 2030 We all dream of a world where there is no poverty, hunger, and all of us enjoy peaceful and safe living conditions. To make this dream a reality, the UN sustainable development goals have been put in place. The SDGs, also called global goals, are a universal call to all nations on the planet to end poverty, protect our planet from hazardous substances, and make the world a place where prosperity prevails. In this article, we will get to know what are with Sustainable Development Goals 2030 a focus on sustainable development goals Punjab. What are Sustainable Goals? Imagine a world where everyone gets a quality education, no one is poor, the planet's ecosystem is well balanced, and no one is dying of hunger. With this aim, UN sustainable development goals have been carved out. ● UNDP i.e. The United Nations Development Program works in 170 countries and territories helping countries eradicate poverty, build an inclusive society and remove inequalities, and build resilient and sustainable countries. ● The SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) was adopted by the United Nations in 2015 with a fifteen years agenda to attain peace and prosperity by 2030.

  2. ● SDGs aim to eradicate poverty, AIDS, hunger, and discrimination. There are seventeen SDG goals that are well integrated. This means that goals achieved in one area affect outcomes of other goals too. The aim of these 17 SDGs is to create a balance amongst the economy, environment, and society. Countries that are further behind in meeting these goals have been prioritized. The success of SDGs relies on many factors in society like know-how, creativity, technology, and financial resources. ● SDG 17 Goals in a Nutshell The core of SDG 2030 has 17 goals having 169 targets to be fulfilled. These goals are to be achieved across the world and by every UN member state by 2030. This means all the states have an equal role to play in tackling the world's most crucial challenges. Non-governmental actors are also given incentives to encourage them to actively participate and contribute to sustainable development. ● Goal 1: No poverty - It aims at eradicating extreme poverty which is defined by people who earn less than 1.25 USD per day. ● Goal 2: Zero hunger - This goal aims to provide access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food to the most vulnerable people including infants, all year round. ● Goal 3: Good health and well-being - The goal is to reduce the maternal mortality rate globally and ensure well being of people with disabilities. ● Goal 4: Quality education - The aim is to ensure equitable and inclusive quality education for all genders including people with disabilities, ● Goal 5: Gender equality - This strives to end all sorts of discrimination and violence against girls and women. ● Goal 6: Clean water and sanitation - This goal is to achieve access to safe and adequate drinking water universally. ● Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy - The goal ensures that by 2030 reliable, modern, and affordable energy services are accessible to everyone across the globe. It also aims at increasing the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix. ● Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth - It targets achieving at least 7% GDP growth in the least developed countries and improving economic productivity through technological upgrades, diversification, and innovation. ● Goal 9: Industry, innovation, and infrastructure - The goal aims at promoting sustainable industrialization and improving access of small-scale industries to financial services. ● Goal 10: Reduced inequality - By 2030 this goal strives to reach inclusion in all respect i.e. social, political, and economic to all sex, ages, disabilities, ethnicity, race, religion, and origin. ● Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities - The goal here is to upgrade slums and provide access to safe, accessible, and affordable housing as well as transportation systems. ● Goal 12: Responsible production and consumption - The main goal here is to ensure natural resources are used efficiently and managed in a way that they are sustainable.

  3. Goal 13: Climate action - SDGs want to ensure that the world has a resilient capacity towards natural disasters and other climate-related hazards. To do this national policies of all countries must integrate climate change measures into their policies, planning, and strategies. Goal 14: Life below water - The marine ecosystem is getting polluted by human activities and this goal is an endeavor to prevent marine pollution which happens mostly due to land activities. Goal 15: Life on land - This goal is geared towards the betterment of ecosystems on land life forests, freshwater ecosystems, deserts, mountain ecosystems, natural habitats, etc. Goal 16: Peace and justice strong institutions - The goal here is to abate the crime rate and significantly reduce death rates related to violence. The goal also has a focus on child safety and aims to end any kind of abuse to children. Goal 17: Partnerships to achieve the goals - This goal seeks the contribution of developed countries to mobilize financial resources for developing countries. ● ● ● ● Sustainable Development Goals Punjab Punjab stands at the first rank amongst all the states in India when it comes to implementing SDG goals. Punjab has secured a total score of 68 with a score of 100 on 22 indicators. ● The Punjab cabinet which is led by CM Amarinder Singh has set up a four-year strategic plan (2019 - 2023) towards achieving SDG goals. ● This action plan sets key performance parameters for government officials so that they can be integrated into the process of development. These officials are also integrated into state budgetary processes. ● These key parameters are in sync with the UN 2030 agenda and the targets, goals, and performance would be assessed in APAR (Annual Performance Appraisal Reports) of key personnel based on targets assigned to them. ● Punjab has also adopted the national indicators framework where the implementing departments would also prepare state-specific indicators. SDGCC - The Catalyst for Attaining SDGs The Sustainable Development Goals Coordination Center (SDGCC) has been set up to bring the whole of government and whole of society approach in meeting SDG targets. SDGCC aims to do this through solutions for integrated planning and implementation for all state departments. SDGCC is also responsible for capacity building and creating awareness about SDGs at district and divisional levels.
