Database Migration Service of AWS – Benefits &Migration One of the best options for migrating databases from on-premises to the cloud is to use the Database Migration Service of Amazon Web Service. The advantage is that it supports both homogeneous and heterogeneous migration processes. Examples of the first are Oracle to Amazon RDS for Oracle, MySQL to Amazon Aurora, MySQL to Amazon RDS for MySQL, or Microsoft SQL Server to Amazon RDS for SQL Server. For the second, database migration includes Oracle to Amazon Aurora, Oracle to PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server to MySQL migrations.

  2. DMS AWS also facilitates continuous replication and consolidation of databases into petabyte-scale data warehouses via data streaming to Amazon Redshift and Amazon S3. Use DMS AWS for six months for free when databases are migrated to Amazon Aurora, Amazon Redshift, Amazon DynamoDB, or Amazon Document DB.

With DMS AWS, deploying, monitoring, and management of systems needed for migration are done automatically after DMS AWS configuration is completed.• DMS AWS charges only for the resources used during migration but in traditional methods, ongoing maintenance charges and up-front purchase costs have to be paid.

If an outage occurs in the primary system during migration, the process is automatically transferred to a backup server. After the issue is resolved, the primary server is updated and the migration goes on as scheduled. • Organizations can scale up and down in usage of migration resources whenever required to meet the workloads.  

  7. • Users can switch to a more affordable and high-performing engine that offers fast and secure services like Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) or Amazon Aurora. For migration, move to and get the benefits of Amazon Redshift, NoSQL platforms like Amazon DynamoDB, or low-cost storage platforms like Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). • Importantly, DMS AWS ensures fully secured data migration since data at the source is encrypted with AWS Key Management Service (AWS KMS) encryption. These are the reasons why AWS DMS is preferred by organizations for data migration.
