  1. What do Companies look for in Full Time Material Handlers There is always a great demand for full time material handlers, simply because the type of work done by them is common across industries. If you are applying for one such vacancy, check whether you want to work in that particular sector. A material handler is needed in the manufacturing sector to move goods and materials around factories, in the construction sector to move materials from one site to another, and similarly in the automotive, aeronautics, and many such industries.

  2. Companies advertising for full time material handlers generally do not stipulate any formal educational qualifications. What is required though is a certain standard of written and verbal communication skills. This is because you have to keep a record of incoming stocks and outgoing goods, damaged in transit, and the net stocks in the inventory. You will also have to report to the supervisor any discrepancies. All this requires some reading and writing skill sets though basic numerical aptitude is enough.

  3. However, after recruitment, full time material handlers are generally provided in-house training programs to make the recruit aware of the work to be done, the documents to be maintained and the safety norms to be followed. The last aspect is particularly important as full time material handlers have to carry out a lot of physical labor and it is important to know how to go about their jobs safely without injuring themselves or others.

  4. A reasons it is the norm for companies to train raw full time material handlers recruits is because there is no standardized mode of material movement or handling procedures. It all depends on the type of goods that have to be carried around. For example, how full time material handlers handle hazardous materials will be completely different from handling non-hazardous materials in boxes or packages, or even loose construction site material. Hence, it is the responsibility of the company that you are working for to provide proper training in this regard.

  5. It is a common requirement for full time material handlers regardless of which sector you are working in is a high degree of physical fitness, stamina, and strength and most companies will test these aspects before hiring you. You should have the ability to be on your feet for long hours at a stretch. Stacking materials require a lot of squatting, twisting, and reaching above your shoulders and you should have the flexibility to be able to do so.

  6. The minimum benchmark for full time material handlers across industries is the capability to push, pull, and lift weights of at least 25lbs. Once you can achieve these physical standards you should not have any problems in excelling in the job of full time material handlers. Finally, you should maintain all the material handling equipment provided to you in very good condition so that do not face any issues during working hours.
