Significance of the first day of Navratri • Goddess Durga is worshipped in nine different forms during Navratri, a Hindu festival that lasts nine nights and ten days.  • We worship Goddess Shailaputri on day one. Her form is Parvati, who is the daughter of Raja Himavan, who is the king of the mountains. "Shaila" means reaching great heights or reaching the summit of a mountain. Goddess rides a bull while holding a trident (trishul) and a lotus in this form. • Worshipping Goddess Shailaputri helps one reach a higher state of consciousness.
