  1. High voltage power fuses High voltage fuse circuit breaker - rated voltage 10-40.5KV, AC 50HZ, three-phase current transmission system Power fuses are a generally accepted means of protecting distribution substation power transformers. The main purpose of a power fuse is to interrupt permanent faults. Fusion is an economical alternative to switch or circuit breaker protection. Fuse protection is generally limited to voltages from 34.5 kV to 69 kV but has been applied for the protection of transformers at 115 kV and 138 kV. To provide the greatest margin of protection, it is necessary to use the smallest possible fuse rating. The advantage of close melting is the ability of the fuse unit to provide backup protection for certain secondary faults. For the common delta-wye connected transformer, a melt ratio of 1.0 would provide backup protection for a phase-to-earth fault as low as 230% of the rated secondary load. The melting ratio is defined as the ratio between the fuse rating and the nominal full load current of the transformer.

  2. With low melt ratios, the fuse can also provide backup protection for line-to- earth faults remote from the substation on the distribution network. The nominal values of the fuses must also take into account parameters other than the full load current of the transformer to be protected. Coordinating with other overcurrent protection devices, handling peak load overloads and heavy-duty jobs may require higher-rated capacities. The general purpose of the power transformer fuse is to support, not interrupt, and load peaks. The nominal values of the fuses must take into account the possibility of nuisance tripping if the value selected is too low for all possible operating conditions. The concern for unbalanced voltages in a three-phase system should be taken into account when choosing to fuse for power transformer protection. The possibility of blowing one or two fuses should be

  3. considered. Unbalanced voltages can cause tank heating in three-phase transformers, overheating, and damage to three-phase motor loads. The Ferro resonance potential must be taken into account for certain transformer configurations when using fusion. The fuses are available in a number of tripping curves (standard, slow, and very slow) to ensure coordination with other protective equipment in the system. The fuses are not voltage critical; they can be applied at any voltage equal to or greater than their rated voltage. Fuses may not require additional structures and are usually mounted on the incoming line structure, saving space in the substation layout.
