Poor Advertisement • Advertisement is an important aspect for any brand and a key culprit, that is what makes the brand rise or fall. Sega ran non-stop commercials before the launch of Dreamcast but the advertisement did not properly focus on the selling points. As compared to the advertisement of PlayStation 2, Dreamcast did poor marketing that couldn’t even keep the people away from PlayStation 2. Microsoft also showed great advertisement by focusing heavily on its games that resulted in its good branding. While Dreamcast cast failed in attracting people's interests towards the console.
Unavailability of Third-Party Support • Another major reason behind the discontinuation of Dreamcast is the lack of support from the third party. Gaming companies were not making games for Dreamcast, for example, popular games like FIFA and Mega man were never released on this console. And this lack of third-party support resulted in serious financial crises for Dreamcast.
The Financial loss of Dreamcast • After the release of Play Station 2, growth in sales of Dreamcast faced a severe downfall. As a result of that reduction in growth, Dreamcast lowered its prices twice that was up to $100 each time. Despite the lowering of prices, no growth in sales was noticed.
