An often asked home question, is does a bedroom have to have a closet? The simple answer is no, many cities and states do not require a bedroom to have a closet. <br><br>More important than the convenience of a closet, the safety and well-being of an occupant is more important.

  2. Kevin Vitali- Massachusetts REALTOR what defines a bedroom? • Let's look at the definition of a bedroom • Many states and cities fall back to the International Residential Code for the minimu requirements for a bedroom.

  3. Kevin Vitali- Massachusetts REALTOR • Size • The minimum requirement for a bedroom is 70 square feet. With no horizontal dimension being less than 70 square feet. Roughly a 7x10 room would be the smallest sized room that would be allowed.

  6. Kevin Vitali- Massachusetts REALTOR • Egress • Probably the most important criteria is a bedroom must have egress to the exterior of a home in the form of a window or door. This is to provide a safe exit in the event of an emergency.

Usually, the glazing of a window or windows must be equal to or greater than 8% of the sq footage of a room and the opening of the windows should equal 4%
