Erlotinib (Tarceva), is a drug approved in order to be used for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and pancreatic cancer.<br>With a reasonable erlotinib price it comes in tablet form, which should be taken by mouth on an empty stomach at least 1-hour before or 2-hours after food. ALLYOUNEEDTOKNOWABOUTERLOTINIB • Erlotinib(Tarceva)isamedicationusedtotreatNSCLC(Non-SmallCellLungCancer)andalsoPancreaticCancer.(Togetherwiththegemcitabinefortreatinglocallyadvanced,unresectable,ormetastaticpancreaticcancer). • MainlyitisusedforNon-Small Cell Lung CancerwithmutationsintheEGFR,whichisknownasEpidermalGrowthFactorReceptorseitheranexon19deletionorexon21substitutionmutationwhichhasspreadtootherpartsofthebody. • SideEffectsofErlotinibtablets: • Sometimes,thisNSCLCmedicine(Erlotinib150mg)mayleavesomeadverse effectsonpatientswhouseit.Immediatelytalktoyourdoctorifyouexperiencedsideeffectsincludecough,jointpain,musclepain,rash,anddiarrhea.Also,Useofthismedicationmayharmthebaby. • DoseandadministrationofErlotinib: • DosageforNon-smallcelllungcancer:TherecommendeddoseofErlotinibformetastaticnon-smalllungcanceris150mg,whichshouldbetakenonanemptystomach,atleastonehourpriorortwohoursaftertheingestionoffood. • TreatmentwithErlotinibtabletsmustcontinueuntildiseaseprogressionorunacceptabletoxicityoccurs. • DoseforPancreaticcancer:Thedailydoseoferlotinibis100mg,whichshouldbetakenatleastanhourpriororacoupleofhoursaftertheingestionofthemeal,togetherwiththegemcitabine.Treatmentmustbecontinueduntilthediseaseprogressionortheunacceptabletoxicityappears. • FDAApproval:ErlotinibwasapprovedformedicaluseintheUnitedStatesin2004.ThismedicationisontheWHO'slistofessentialmedicines.Accordingtothelist,thesafestandmosteffectivemedicinesneededinahealthsystem. • HowErlotinibWorks: • Erlotinib(Non-SmallCellLungCancermedication)specificallyworksbytargetingtheepidermalgrowthfactorreceptor(EGFR)tyrosinekinase,whichishighlyexpressedandoccasionallymutatedinvariousformsofcancer.Itbindsinareversiblefashiontotheadenosinetriphosphate(ATP)bindingsiteofthereceptor.Inordertosignaltobetransmitted,twoEGFRmoleculesneedtocometogethertoformahomodimer.Byusingthemoleculeofadenosinetriphosphatetotrans-phosphorylateeachotherontyrosineresidues,whichgeneratesphosphotyrosineresidues,recruitingthephosphotyrosine-bindingproteinstoEGFRtoassembleproteincomplexesthattransducethesignalcascadestothenucleusoractivateothercellularbiochemicalprocesses.WhenTarceva(erlotinib)bindstoEpidermalGrowthFactorReceptors,formationofphosphotyrosineresiduesinEGFRisnotpossibleandthesignalcascadesarenotinitiated. • ThingsyoumustnotdowhileonErlotinib: • Donotinterruptconsumingerlotiniborchangethedosewithoutcheckingwithyourhealthcareprofessional.
