  1. Create a Different Look with Matte Beads — 3 of our Favs Matte beads are popular because they allow you to create a new and different look for your projects and designs. Matte beads do not have the sheen and shine that glossy beads have, and their color is generally more subtle, the bead surface feels textured, and they have a very natural look and earthy feel. Matte beads are also known as frosted beads and are quite common. Most are opaque and are generally one color; however, there are many variations. There are also semi-matte beads which are a mix of matte and glossy that are a bit showier than the mattes. You can make jewelry using only matte beads or mix and match them with semi-matte or glossy beads. Adding matte beads to your collection is an excellent way to expand your options for being creative with your designs. We’d like to share three types of matte beads we hope to inspire you to add to your work. Matte Glass Beads- These beads are quite common and come in a variety of colors, sizes, and shapes. Many shapes are available, from matte round beads to matte tear-dropped shaped beads. With so many options, you’ll find that adding matte glass beads opens up a whole range of new design possibilities. Matte Gemstone Beads- gemstone beads are a lovely addition to any project; matte gemstone beads are a unique way to complement or contrast with your glossy beads. Many designers and beaders choose matte gemstone beads because of their subdued nature — they make a quiet statement that says I’m here without too much bling.

  2. Semi-Matte Beads- gemstone and glass beads can come with a semi-matte surface. Beads with semi-matte characteristics are a mix of a glossy and a matte finish. This intermediary surface is great when matte is too dull and glossy too much. The beauty of beading for most designers is the wide variety of choices of materials, from the beads to the types of stringing wares. And many are motivated by the creative possibilities — knowing what’s available is genuinely inspiring.
