  1. All You Need To Know about Acrylic Keychains

  2. Acrylic UV resin keychains are a fun way to use vinyl cutouts. While there are a number of different ways to use these acrylic blanks, today's post will specifically guide you through the process of sealing the transfer vinyl with UV resin on one side and embedding the resin with glitter on the other side or powder pigment.

  3. Before you begin, visit our Free Resource Library to download the free keychain background images. Once this is done, watch the following video to walk through the process of uploading and using the files in the Cricut Design Space.

  4. Using our free SVG cutting file • Open a new project in Design Space. Select Upload to locate your image. Then click Upload Image and browse for the file you downloaded. It will complete, then click to select your image and choose Insert Images. • Images will be grouped when inserted. Click Ungroup. Now you can use each background image individually. Hide or delete images that you will not use. • Choose the image for your background and while it is highlighted select the size you want for your blank keychain. For my 2 ″ acrylic blank, I sized 1.5 ″ wide with the proportions locked out. • Add your text below. Select the Text button, choose your font, and type the word or phrase you want. I am using a font that I have downloaded and installed on my own system called Beach. With the new kerning option, you can produce already connected script sources. Select all the letters together and click Weld. Size, with proportions locked, to desired width. Mine was 1.5 ″.

  5. Lastly, click Make It to cut your design. Because both images will be cut from the same type of vinyl, I moved them to the same cutting mat by clicking on the three dots in the image and selecting Move. Do not do this if you are cutting them from different types of material. • Now that you have your decals we can move on to the next step and place them on the acrylic blanks. The following video walks you through that process completely.

  6. Starting to make your acrylic keychain • To get started creating your UV resin acrylic keychain, gather all your supplies. (In this example, I'm using plain glitter, but you can use a lot of other things to embed in your resin.) • Will need: • UV resin • Brilliantine • Acrylic blanks • UV curing light • the transfer vinyl that you just cut in the steps above • scraper • weeding tool • mixing cup and something to stir • transfer tape • lighter or heat gun • Prepare your transfer by using the tape to move the name to the background and set it aside. Let's start by working on the back.

  7. Preparing your acrylic blank with UV resin • Remove the protective coating with a weeding tool. • Pour just enough resin into the mixing glass to cover the surface. • Gently add the glitter, being careful not to incorporate bubbles. • adding shine to UV resin • Next, pour the glossy resin onto the surface of the blank keychain. Slowly push the resin to the edge of the blank, being careful not to push it over the edge. This takes some time and patience. • Once the entire surface is covered, use a lighter or heat tool to heat the surface and release the bubbles. • Finally, cure it in the light. Follow the directions on your resin, but this usually takes around 60 seconds. The lamp will heat the resin as it cures, so let it cool for a few minutes before touching it to avoid leaving marks on the surface. • Once cooled, flip it over. Remove the backing from your prepared vinyl decal. Place it where you want on the front of the blank and use a scraper tool to fully adhere and remove bubbles.

  8. Final Touches • Finally, for a more finished look, coat the top with resin, spread it evenly over the surface, remove bubbles and cure. Later, once cooled, you're ready to add jump rings (not included in the kit) to the keychain and tassel, and voila! You have created a unique acrylic keychain with UV resin.
