What is a Student Visa? Student Visas are the type of visa required for students who are looking to study in the UK. The UK Student Visa has replaced the Tier 4 student Visa. An aspirant can apply for a UK student Visa when his/her age is 16 years or more. Types of UK Student Visa Prospective non-EU applicants are eligible for three types of UK student Visa, which depends on their choice of program: 1. Short-term study Visa If you have planned to take a short course whose duration is not more than six months in the UK, you must apply for a Short-term study Visa. To qualify for a Short-term study Visa, you must be compliant with the government's guidelines. Your Short-term Visa cannot be extended, and you cannot switch to another Visa category. You cannot work with a Short-term Visa, including carrying out work experience or placements Visa Duration Duration for this Visa is 6 to 11 months Who can apply? Tier 4 Student Visa (General) You can apply under this category to study in the UK if you're of 16 years or more. Visa Duration Duration of the program plus one month Who can apply? Applicants aged more than 16 years. Enrolling in a course whose duration is more than 6 months F Fees Structure 348 GBP 3. Tier 4 Student Visa (Child) Visa Duration Aged under 16 Years: 6 years and four months Aged between 16 to 17 years: 3 years and four months Who can apply Applicants who are aged between 4 and 17 years can apply. Eligibility Criteria for UK Student Visa Tier 4 Student Visa is issued to candidates who are a minimum of 16 years old and are willing to pursue higher education in the UK.   5. 1. Course Selection & CAS Before applying for a UK student visa, candidates need to apply in an eligible course. As a Tier 4 visa candidate, you can go for any one of the following courses: A full-time education program which leads to a quali?cation that is equal to or higher than NQF level 6 (Bachelor's degree or equivalent, graduate diploma or certi?cate) A part-time program that leads to a quali?cation that is higher than or equal to NQF level 7 (Master's degree or equivalent, postgraduate certi?cate or diploma) A full-time p A full-time program, with a duration of a minimum of 15 hrs per week leading to a quali?cation that is higher than or equal to NQF level 3 (IB diploma or equivalent, higher education diploma) A recognized Foundation program for dentists or doctors. An English language program at the B2 Level. Once you have got admission to a university that is approved by UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI), you will get a reference number called a Con?rmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). You are required to apply for the UK student visa within six months of getting the Con?rmation of Acceptance for Studies. 2. Knowledge of English As part of the assessment, your UK university will also assess your English language pro?ciency level as an integral part of academic evaluation for the applied course. For the Tier 4 student visa, you should prove your English language language knowledge by clearing a Secure English Language Test with CEFR Level B1 and B2. www.osbournepinner.com 3

IELTS and PTE are the common Secure English Language Tests that the prospective applicants take; the CEFR levels for these exams are mentioned below: Applicants should obtain the above-mentioned scores in each section that is Writing, Reading, Listening and Speaking. 3. Availability of Enough Funds As a Tier 4 UK Student visa candidate, you are required to provide proper evidence of funds to pay for your tuition and accommodation expenses for a minimum of a year. At the time of visa application, you should show that you have: Minimum 12006 GBP to cover your one-year course fees Received official ?nancial sponsorship Enough funds are available to cover the remaining course fees and living expenses The total amount of funding you are required to explain depends entirely on the category under which you are applying, your course duration, and your living arrangements in the UK. As evidence of your funds, you should use one of the following: Cash funds in current bank or savings.   7. 4. Health Service Charge All UK student visa candidates are required to pay a health surcharge of 300 GBP per year to get access to the UK's National Health Service. The students need to pay this at the time of submission of their online visa application. Eligibility Criteria for UK Student Visa You are offered a place in an eligible course within the UK and have a Con?rmation of Acceptance for Studies letter. You should have enough money to pay for your course whilst you are studying in the UK. £1,265 per month for courses in London £1,015 per month for courses outside London You are required to possess enough pro?ciency in the English language. This is assessed through a test that measures your ?uency versus the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scale. Application Process International students seeking Tier 4 student visa must apply a minimum of three months before the start of the program.   8. How to Apply? 1. Enroll yourself on biometrics at a visa application centre to get a Bio metric Residence Permit. 2. Complete an Online Application Form 3. Submit your Tuberculosis Certi?cate. 4. Pay for the visa processing fee of 348 GBP. 5. Go for an interview Generally, outcomes of the UK student visa are noti?ed within three weeks of application. Priority Services Your application starts to process once you submit the biometrics and completes after the collection of your passport. The complete process takes nearly three weeks, in which one week is ?ve working days. The students are also offered a provision to extend the Tier 4 visa in case they need some more time to complete your course or start a new one.
