  1. Some Medical Conditions Require Immediate Attention Feeling unwell can make any person negative and miserable. At times it is less serious, and the ailment resolves itself quickly, very often without medical attention. But very often a doctor or other medical professional’s intervention is called for, therefore one approaches the GP for an appointment, or one drives to the nearest hospital in case of an emergency for immediate treatment and assistance. It is true that some conditions develop over time and only require attention after a while. When that happens, the person calls their doctor for an appointment which, if they are lucky, can be scheduled almost immediately. But that is never a given. Doctors are busy people and are booked way in advance by patients, which means one may have to wait a day or more – sometimes a week or longer to be fit into the schedule. When you do not have many options, you may well be forced to accept this. But fortunately advancing technology now makes it possible for patients to be consulted online and receive a prescription for medicine straight away – all without having left their home or office, or wherever they find themselves during such consultation! Some advanced and forward-thinking doctors and medical practices now make it possible for patients to receive this type of service. Many of the best ones, incidentally, are well versed with all aspects of the NHS too, which means they can offer their assistance over a wide front and be available for many patients, not only those that seek their services as private patients. Of course it would depend on the nature of one’s illness or the reason for not feeling well. These services are not meant where immediate, personal attention in a doctor’s rooms or a hospital may mean the difference between life and death. In that case one gets to a hospital immediately. Looking at some of those conditions that one makes an appointment for to see the GP – also the GPs that offer online consultations – include, for example, tonsilitis, sore throats and coughs, emotional support for the person that struggles with issues related to mental and emotional issues such as anxiety, for example. Much as one’s regular GP would do, these online professionals will

  2. know how they can assist with advice and medicines – or refer the patient to another professional such as a psychologist, for example[le. What is important is to know that the GP is often the first port of call to get further processes started. Take, for example, people struggling with urinary tract infections (UTI). These are often fairly common and can be treated very successfully in most cases – also when one has an online consultation with a GP. Patients suffering from these conditions that, typically, affect the bladder (called cystitis), the urethra, ureters and the kidneys, should not wait when they experience symptoms, since early treatment takes care of the situation not only quicker; it also helps to avoid very serious conditions from developing. Early signs of infection to look out for include, among some, the following: a burning or stinging sensation when you pass urine; having to pee more frequently than normal; pain or discomfort in one’s abdomen (around the tummy and lower), back pain and urine that shows signs of blood. Upon these signs one should not wait to get in touch with a doctor, in their rooms - or online. Treatment is normally effective, provided one does not wait too long or there are other infections or problems indicated. Very often one course of antibiotics takes care of this problem, and by following some basic tips one may be able to stave off a recurrence in future. UTIs are but one example that doctors treat every day – also online. There are many more. What is good to know, is that by getting in touch with a GP soon enough, may take care of the issue without ongoing problems.
