  2. What is a fire alarm system? • A fire alarm system is basically a combination of detection and sounding devices which are co-dependent. Just like you have a CPU in a computer which acts as its brain, you have an FACP (Fire Alarm Control Panel) here that acts as the brain of the alarm. Besides this, there is a power supply network that connects the alarm system to the main and backup power supply. • The working of the fire alarm system can seem both simple and complex at the same time. First of all, in case there is smoke, it is picked up by the detection device which immediately conveys the danger to the FACP. The FACP, being the brain of the system, decides on the course of action to take. These actions could be alerting the nearest fire station, activating the sprinkler system, sounding the alarm, etc.

For example - a trouble signal can indicate power failure, battery problems, and other connectivity issues. A supervisory signal can indicate connection problems between the fire alarm and the protection equipment such as a sprinkler.
