It imports raw materials • Known for variety and quality of its manufactured goods • Products: • Agriculture • Farmland is limited • Intensive cultivation, use fertilizers and modern machinery to produce high crop yield. • Economic Challenges: • World’s leading exporter but limits import • Preserving the environment

Japan’s Government • Japan’s government is constitutional monarchy • - Emperor, the head of state • Japan has great influence as a world economic power. • Japan keeps military small caused by the suffering during WWII • Improved health care and education for its people. • Lowest infant death rate • 100% literacy rate • Crime rate is very low. JAPAN’S PEOPLE AND CULTURE • About the size of California but the population is nearly half of the US. • Most of the people live in urban area or city. • Some people are still wearing the traditional dress called kimono • Family ties still remain strong • Religion; • Shinto and Buddhism • Shinto teaches respect of nature, love of simple things, cleanliness and good manners.
