What is • http://www.who.int/flunet (case sensitive) • Web-based interactive data reporting, query and mapping system • For support and coordination of national, regional and global influenza surveillance • Real-time monitoring of influenza activity around the world • Alert of detection of abnormal strains • Data entry by NICs and other national influenza labs • Password protected login • Data available publicly from 1997 to date for over 80 countries

History of • 1996: 1st version developed with INSERM, France • Remote data entry started on 1 January 1997 with 22 pilot NICs • Since 2003 FluNet is based on the Global Health Atlas platform • Web-based interactive data reporting and mapping system maintained by the WHO Public Health Mapping and GIS team • Jun – Nov 2009 Offline FluNet due to IT technical problems • Dec 2009 back to online FluNet • Nov 2010 new FluNet homepage launched
