In 1643, Louis inherits the throne (only 4 years old)

France ruled by his mother & Cardinal Mazarin the Chief Minister

Takes the throne in 1661

Decided to have control and decision in every aspect of government

Absolutism- ruler holds total power; believed power given from God

Called the Sun God because he wanted the France to revolve around him

1st king to rule without a Chief Minister
