Phonics in KS1-NLS framework Children must be taught to: Discriminate between the separate sounds in words; Learn the letters and letter combinations most commonly used to represent these sounds; Read words by sounding out and blending the separate phonemes; Spell words by segmenting the phonemes and using their knowledge of letter-sound correspondences to represent the phonemes; Continued
