The 2013 Summer Program of The Marco Polo – Zheng He Academy of International Oceans Law and Policy offers a unique series of lectures and workshops on International law of the Sea in a demanding four weeks course in Xiamen and Shanghai. The legal issues are viewed under political, economic, environmental, and intellectual property. Week 1 June 24 (Monday) ~ June 28 (Friday), Xiamen Prof. Myron Nordquist, University of Virginia “On Navigation and EEZ Resources” Week 2 July 1 (Monday) ~ July 5 (Friday), Xiamen Prof. GAO Sheng-ti, Taiwan Ocean University “On International Law of the Sea and China” Week 3 July 8 (Monday) ~ July 12 (Friday), Shanghai Prof. Kuen-chen FU, SJTU KoGuan Chair Professor “On the South China Sea, the Arctic Ocean and the related Disputes Settlement” Week 4 July 15 (Monday) ~ July 19 (Friday), Shanghai Prof. Pilar Ossorio, University of Wisconsin “On the relationship of intellectual property rules and IP licensing to the law of the sea” The Summer Program Curriculums "Welcome to Xiamen where Marco Plo Started his journey back home to Veince; and welocome to Shangha iwhere the world's larges harbour locates."   5. The classes of the 2013 Summer Program will be arranged in the weekday mornings leaving the afternoons and weekends free for field visits, sightseeing, and other activities. In addition to in-class instruction and discussions, the South China Sea Institute of Xiamen University and the Center for Oceans Law and Policy of Shanghai Jiao Tong University will try to arrange our fellows to visit a number of ocean related government agencies and legal institutions in Xiamen and Shanghai. The program of Xiamen will include: ·Welcome Reception ·Xiamen district courts ·law firms ·the Xiamen port authorities ·Ocean-related government agencies The program of Shanghai will include: ·Welcome Reception ·Polar Research Institute of China ·China Maritime Museum ·China Art Palace ·Ocean-related government agencies The Summer Program Extra-Curricular Activities Class of 2012 At the Polar Research Institute of China Please note that the arrangement of courses and field trips are subject to adjustment.

  6. The Summer Program Prof. Kuen-chen FUearnedhis S.J.D. fromthe University of VirginiaSchool of Law. He specializes in international law, law of the sea, international arbitration law,and Anglo-American contract law. He has also taught courses in private international law, constitutional law, international business law, etc. He is an arbitrator for CMAC, CIETAC, Shanghai, Xiamen, Quanzhou, Wuhan and Russian Far Eastern Region. Faculty for 2013 Professor Myron H. Nordquistearned his S.J.D. fromthe University of Virginia School of Law and was the first Senior Fellow at the School's Center for Oceans Law and Policy.Dr. Nordquist now servesas the AssociateDirector and Editor of the Center for Oceans Law and Policy, and as the SeniorFellow for the Center for National SecurityLaw at the University of Virginia School ofLaw. Additional information about Professor Kuen-chen FU Additional information about Professor Nordquist Prof. Pilar Ossorio is Associate Professor of Law and Bioethics at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and Program Faculty in the Graduate Program in Population Health at the UW. Prior to taking her position at UW, she was Director of the Genetics Section at the Institute for Ethics at the American Medical Association, and taught as an adjunct faculty member a the Universityof Chicago Law School. Prof. GAO Sheng-tispecialzes in Public International Law, Law of international organizations, International Law of the Sea, International Air law, International Fisheries Law and case studies of regional international fisheries organizations. Prof. GAO Sheng-ti earned his Ph.D from Leiden University. Now he is Associate Professor of Law at the National Taiwan Ocean University.   7. The Summer Program Certificate All courses will be conducted in English.There will be no test, unless any studentswho would needto get a certificate of grade. Then he could ask the teacher to give him a test, and if pass it, he will begiven a certificate of grade. Others get only a certificate of attendance at the end of the program. Certificates are awarded at the Graduation Ceremony in 2012

Please make sure that all the documents are sent to us. Admission Any university students or people who have bachelor degree or above, who are interested in the oceans law and policy, are eligible for our summer programs. Tuition US$555 (RMB¥3500).(Includes coursestuition,materials) Application for Shanghai Session The application deadline for the 2013Shanghai Summer Program is 10June2013. Application must be received before deadline (included). To apply,please do the following: 1.   11. The Summer Program Notes: Classes are arranged from 8:30 a.m. to 12:20 a.m. plus some afternoon field visits. Application for Xiamen Session To applyXiamen Session,please do the following: 1.
