Purpose and Need • The CBJ Comprehensive Plan has called this area Juneau’s Arts, Cultural & Civic District for years, and citizen’s actions to build the state museum, support the JACC and more reinforce this. Area is zoned for higher density mixed use development with housing. More focus is needed to move forward. Support State Capitol. • A lot of activity will be occurring in and around this District. It is therefore a good time to provide more direction to help guide both public and private sector investment here. What should CBJ be encouraging on its land?

CBJ Plans Provide Clear Direction Land Use • Juneau’s Civic-Cultural-Arts campus • Create a lively atmosphere • Foster/leverage mixed-use development • More housing Transportation • Improve pedestrian environment - link destinations • Work together on parking, share parking • New parking structures anticipated

  16. 262 people took the Online Survey • Over half who took it visit area daily. • Half walk, half drive through. • 200 written comments Very Important / Important Goals Clean up the area Address area’s social issues Streetscape improvements Better walking connections Expand arts, cultural and civic uses here Deal with area’s rundown buildings Incentives to encourage transit

  23. Surface parking is primary land use Concrete & barbed wire Egan is hard to cross.

  24. Walking is often haphazard, cut through parking lots, lack of safety.

  25. Limited Green or Public Space - ‘leftovers’

  26. Several buildings are at the end of their design life, or will be within 10+ years
