  1. Resources For the NON-MUSICAL CORPS

  2. Reflection Question #1 • Explain what your ideal corps would be like, music-wise.

  3. Reflection Question #2 What is YOUR worst-case scenario for a non-musical corps? (this differs from person to person)

  4. Bashful Band Corps Your first appointment is at a corps that has a brass band, but no pianist. The band is not very good, and does not have a confident leader. What do you do?

  5. Perfect Percussionist Temple Your new corps has neither pianist nor band, but a fantastic percussionist. Where do you go from here?

  6. Deceitful Diva Corps Your new appointment brings you to a corps with a singer/pianist who wants to be the star of the service every week. She promises she will be there and will lead each song from the piano. WOO HOO!!! YET on the first Sunday you are about to start the service and she is NOWHERE to be found. What do you do!?

  7. Tunebook CD Binder/Hallelujah Chorus CDs We have discussed these before. They are excellent resources. DO NOT LOSE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (they are not cheap)

  8. Search around your neighborhood • Head off to the local schools: • High Schools • Colleges • Private Music Lesson Studios

  9. Create an incentive Free transportation to and from the corps Free meals- Lunch after the service, Dinner before or after a weeknight rehearsal Possible stipend

  10. Youth/Adult Music School Start FRESH!

  11. Seattle Temple’s School of Music

  12. Music brings people together Great time of fellowship. “If it wasn’t for music, I would never have been brought to Christ, because I would never have been invited to attend the Salvation Army Music Camp” A current Officer on the field.

  13. Youth/Adult Music Program • YOUTH • Hire an outsider or insider, depending on who you can find • Start with weekly lessons • Eventually build up to a beginner band/chorus. • This will be your basis • Can be brass, vocal, keyboard, percussion, guitars, bass, etcetcetc!!! • ASK YOUR DMD for support!! • ADULTS • Hire an outsider or insider, depending on who you can find • Start with weekly/bimonthly lessons • Eventually build up to beginner band/chorus • This will be your basis • Can be brass, vocal, keyboard, percussion, guitars, bass, etcetcetc!!!! • ASK YOUR DMD for support!!!

  14. Think up Creative Events Battle of the Bands Open Mic Night- (Make sure attendees/participants have clear rules/expectations) Bring your corps members to OTHER Corps’ events!

  15. What about adding a little drama?

  16. Drama Resources If you find that all you are able to use at that moment are the accompaniment CDs, then add a bit of creativity elsewhere…. DRAMA! This is a great way to bring scripture alive. Trade has some wonderful books FULL of short skits, monologues, etc. They are not expensive and your DC will surely support you.

  17. Other Options Worship Videos Dance Puppet Arts Movies What are your ideas?

  18. Discuss what you can do!
