  1. Local News Raja Bomoh ridiculed at KLIA for his effort to search for MH370 As of Wednesday 12 March 2014 Source : http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2014/03/12/vip-bomoh-at-klia-ridiculed

  2. Portfolio of Raja Bomoh • His real name is DATUK MAHAGURU IBRAHIM MAT ZAIN. • Famed for his mystical powers, he solved a few difficult cases such as the the highland towers, mystery of villa Nabila, Mona Fandy and a few more. • Current title : Raja BomohSeduniaNujum VIP and 1Malaysia Corporate Bomoh

  3. Chronology • On Sunday, Ibrahim pulled a stunt, showing him using bamboos as binocular and looking into a fish trap, in order ‘to locate’ the missing MH370 flight. • A few days later, Ibrahim brought several other assistants who sat on a mat and portrayed an act of diving on the sea. • One man is seen carrying two coconuts up and down, in an attempt to ‘break the barrier in the land of elves’ to free the aircraft.

  4. Response • Most people criticized his action as a cheap publicity to gain everyone’s attention while critics claimed his action is not based on Muslim. (Also seen as “ajaransesat” or stray teaching) • KhairyJamaluddin, the Minister of Youth and Sports mentioned in his twitter that what the Raja Bomoh is doing was ridiculous and he urged the authorities to arrest as soon as possible.

  5. Result • The posted Twitter resulted a heated argument between the two individual, with Datuk Ibrahim Mat Zain replying in a video form saying he will slap Khairy like a crocodile. • Challenging Khairy’s authority, the shaman dared Khairy to resign his position as a minister and he (Datuk Ibrahim) will resign as a grandmaster. They would then talk one to one after that. • The shaman threatens to file a lawsuit against anyone that would cause him any sort of defamation for RM100 million.

  6. Conclusion • Both the individual has their own strong point of views and based on the theories and principles that we have learned, I would say the Raja Bomoh is acting based on Deontology. He is duty bounded by his role as a shaman and he is not afraid/ashamed to be seen performing his rituals in KLIA. He believes that what he practices is not deviant Islamic teachings. • In Khairy’s point of view, he thinks that Datuk Mat Zain is just taking the opportunity to gain worldwide attention by performing such acts in public places. He feels that the shaman should be arrested by appropriate authorities before his stunts condemned the teaching of Islam. He is acting based on utilitarian rule which uses moral rules in order to establish social order and justice. He is trying to please the majority by delivering the maximum amount happiness for the majority of society while maintaining a minimum damage.

  7. International News South Korea ferry sinks while captain escapes • As of Tuesday • 29 April 2014 Source : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2614954/WATCH-The-moment-captain-sinking-South-Korean-ferry-abandoned-ship-UNDERPANTS-leaving-hundreds-die.html

  8. Summary of the incident • The ferry (Sewol) was on it’s routine trip to Jeju, a resort island considered as Hawaii of Korea. The incident happened on 16 April 2014, 9:00 a.m. • During the incident, Sewol was carrying more than 475 people, mostly school children (375). • Experts have confirmed that Sewol may have taken a sharp turn, causing the ship to shift off balance, capsizing the entire ferry. • Crews contacted with local maritime traffic controls center for help before escaping the ferry alone. The passengers were instructed by the onboard announcementsto stay in their seats or cabins, according to survivors.

  9. Timeline of the incident

  10. Result of the incident • A total death of 187 as of 26th April 2014 with the search currently slowed down due to faster tidal currents and bad weather conditions. • Only a total of 174 people has been rescued while the remainder were presumed to have drowned. Divers have been dispatched to find remaining bodies in the ship. • According to the rescue divers, they can only see a few inches in front of them as they search areas of the ship where the children were told to stay for their own safety. • "We are trained for hostile environments, but it's hard to be brave when we meet bodies in dark water. We have to touch everything with our hands. This is the most grueling and heartbreaking job of my career," he said.

  11. Video of Captain Lee JoonSeok

  12. Verdict of this incident • Sewol’s captain, Captain Lee JoonSeok, 69 and his crew members have been arrested on negligence charges while convicted as a mass murderer due to the fact that he instructed the passengers to stay in their cabins. • Many of the children did not question their elders, as is customary in hierarchical Korean society, and paid for their obedience with their lives. • South Korea's Prime Minister Chung Hong-won announced his resignation Sunday morning, taking responsibility for the slow initial reaction to Sewol’s sinking that has left nearly 200 dead and scores more still missing.

  13. Conclusion • Captain Lee JoonSeok and his crews were being disgraceful by abandoning their ship while leaving everyone else to their doom. It is true that this situation is every man for himself but being the captain of Sewol, he is lawfully bounded by his duty to be responsible for all the passenger’s safety. Virtue ethic dictates that when dealing with moral virtue, one must not be on either extreme sides. He chooses to be in the cowardice category and escape all by himself while failing to display any courageous attempt as the captain of Sewol. • Meanwhile, Chung Hong-won had decided to resign his position as the Prime Minister of South Korea, stating that it is his responsibility to handle such crisis effectively. While this action seems like a noble move, many people dismissed his resignation as “meaningless” due to the fact he is accused to avoid any further problems. I personally feel that the Prime Minister is carrying out the utilitarianism act as long as the result provides the highest amount happiness while delivering as little hurt as possible.
