  1. Budgeting Budgeting can be applied to many facets of life (income/expenditure, life/study balance, etc) eg: Jacky is studying for his Preliminary HSC Course. Each week he sleeps 8 hours per night, spends 2 hours per day on social media, 2 hours per day surfing, 3 hours working a part time job on Sat and Sun, from 8:45 until 3:15 at school on each weekday, and 5 hours travelling by bus. He also does 3 hours of homework each night, and spends 0.5h at the dinner table. • Prepare a weekly budget for Jacky’s time. How much “flexible” time has he. • Jacky teacher tells him that he needs to increase his amount of study to 6 hours to achieve his goals. Is this realistic? Which “non-fixed” aspects of his week can be sacrificed to allow him to do this?

  2. (b) Jacky’s teacher tells him that he needs to increase his amount of study to 6 hours to achieve his goals. Is this realistic? Which “non-fixed” aspects of his week can be sacrificed to allow him to do this? 6 hours study is 3 hours extra per day: 3 x 7 = 21 hours eg: Jacky is studying for his Preliminary HSC Course. Weekly Time Budget Available Time: 7 x 24h = 168 hours Expenses (Activities): Sleeping 7x8 = 56 hours Social Media 7x2 = 14hours Surfing 7x2 = 14 hours Job 2x3 = 6hours School 5x6.5h = 32.5hours Travel 5 hours Homework 7x3 = 21 hours Meals 7x0.5 = 3.5 hours TOTAL 152 hours Flexible Time = 168 – 152 = 16 hours
