  1. October 2011 The Peninsula Post From the President’s desk We started October – designated month for “Vocation Service” by Rotary International- with a bang with Lead hosting with 9 other co-host clubs the prestigious “District Seminar on Values & Ethics” on 01-Oct at MC Ghia Hall. Hon Justice Dhananjay Chandrachud and Prof. Sanjay Ranade were keynote speakers. This reinforced the values which enshrine our Rotarian life viz. Truth, Fairness, Build Goodwill & friendship, Beneficial to all.  The momentum achieved in the previous month in various community service activities continued and spilled over to District Events where our club made its presence felt. Thanks to all members who came forward to contribute their time, effort and money in service of the community.  We now take up the challenging rural community service project under District Thrust Area viz. Check Dam at Shahpur Taluka for which we have received District Grant approval for 1/3 of the cost. We are raising the balance 2/3 cost through complimentary entry into Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon on 15-Jan-2012 for all donors above Rs. 10,000/-. We have completed 15 entries. We have obtained few more entry bibs. Please hurry to ensure your participation in the Dream Run – which is total fun.

  2. District Seminar on Values & Ethics: 01-Oct-11 “ • Hon. Justice DhananjayChandrchud and Shri Sanjay Ranade, journalist & professor were the speakers • They brought out values & ethics by speaking about daily life experiences. It was very lively and well attended talk • Our club was the lead host for this District Seminar along with 9 other co-host clubs

SOTS Senior Officers Training Seminar • Our club co-hosted the SOTS – Senior Officers Training Seminar for the District Team 2012-13 under leadership of DGE Dr. Bal Inamdar • It was held at YMCA, Near Bombay Central, Mumbai from 9am to 5pm. Asst Governors, Asst Trainers and Joint Secretaries underwent Rotary and leadership training at the able hands of various PDG and faculty • Rtn Anil Jain joined Prez Jay & Asha Toshniwal in the program

  4. Spectacles Distribution: 09-Oct-11 In continuation of Project Roshni-Cataract Eye Camp, our club distributed prescription lenses free of cost to over 50 persons at Simlanagar, Napean Sea Road, Mumbai. Many of our members with R/Ann along with guests attended this program. Event Sponsored by Rajesh Shah, Ketan Manek, Sanjay Dalal, Nilesh Shah, Gopal Dave, Pankaj Vora, Jay Toshniwal, Anil Jain, Rajiv Maheshwari, Kashi Deora, Pradeep Kainya.   5. Free Eye Check up Camp: 13-Oct-11 • On the “World Sight Day” our club sponsored a free eye check up camp at Municipal Eye Hospital, Near Do Taki, Grant Road East, Mumbai. • Over 200 patients got their eyes checked up.

  6. AGM & Elections:14-Oct-11 • Our club held its AGM + Elections at Garware Club House Hall on Friday, 14-Oct-11 at 7:30pm. After the regular business of accounts approval, auditor appointment, etc. the Elected Board members for Rotary year 2012-13 were announced elected unanimously unopposed. • The members welcomed PE Anil Jain, PN Pankaj Vora, Secretary Anup Taparia, Treasurer Vijay Zanwar, Directors Chandrashekhar Daga, Prakash Mandana, Shyam Todi

  7. Diwali Party: 14-Oct-11 Our club celebrated the festival of lights “Deepawali” on Friday, 14-Oct-11 at Garware Club House Hall, D Road, Churchgate after the AGM Beautiful Rangoli and Foral Decoration welcomed members who were anointed with Keshar Tilak and shower of Rose petals

  8. Antakshari Radhika Shukla arranged innovative “Antakshari” based on situations and words which involved all members into singing and dancing The team captains duly supported by their co-captains, vice-captains and team members put up the great show. Sumptuous dinner was served with “high” spirits. Members were presented with decorative “diya” and CD on “Cow Therapy”. The program was attended by over 100 members, Anns, children & guests

Gandhi & 4-Way Test Quiz: 14-Oct-11 In line with the theme of the month - “vocation”, our club conducted a quiz on “Gandhi & 4-Way Test” with Std X children at Nalanda School, Byculla on Friday, 14-Oct-11. Books on Gandhiji were distributed a week before the Quiz. The teachers evaluated the quiz papers. Certificates, prizes and snacks were distributed on Tuesday, 01-11-11.   10. Regular Meetings On 20-10-2011 Shri Sanjeev Nayyar addressed members on the essence of festivals including Diwali. He spoke on the deeper purpose of life Celebration with underprivileged children: 21-Oct-11: Our club celebrated the festival of lights – Diwali with underprivileged children Muktangan school, BBD Chawl, Worli. The celebration included fun activities like rangoli art, craft, festoons, music, dance, games, snacks and gifts. Over 300 children celebrated the festival. Event Sponsored by-Anil Jain, Anup Taparia, Arun Gada, Pankaj Vora, Sanjay Dalal ,Chirayush shah, GopalDave, Hema Rakesh Shah, Ketan Manek, Nilesh Shah.

  11. District News District Seminar on Values & Ethics: 01-Oct-11 Hon Justice DhananjayChandrchud and Shri Sanjay Ranade, journalist & professor were the speakers. District Festival – Dandiya: 01-Oct-11 Our club members Prez Jay & Lady Asha Toshniwal participated in the District Festival – Dandiya celebrated at MM Pupils High School, Khar West, Mumbai. Over 650 Rotarians participated in festive mood

  12. :International Service : 12 Oct’11   • Our club hosted Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars Miss Miss Hilary Clinton from USA. She is studying at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Deonar • She was shown around South Mumbai including Crawford Market, Manish Market, Musafirkhana

  13. Community Service • Shartul Foundation: Our Club Donated Special Chair to Physically Challenged children. Chairs donated by- Manoj Pandya, Jay Toshniwal, Vijay Zanwar, Vijay Biyani, Nilesh Shah, Sanjiv Barad, Rakesh Shah, Arun Gada, Dr. Rajesh Tiwari. • Red Swastik :Sewing Machine donated by Anil Jain, Arun Gada, Pankaj Vora, Ramakant Chokhani, Manoj Pandya. • TRF (PHF/Multiple PHF): Congratulations to Aanchal Rajiv Maheshwari, Kamal Harlalka, Aashi Anil Jain, Jay Toshniwal, Manoj Pandya, Pankaj Vora, Ashok Bharaadia, Anup Taparia for becoming PHF

Rotary club of Bombay Peninsula NOVEMBER 2011 EVENTS • 01st November: Quiz : “Gandhi & 4-way Test”: Awarding Certificate of Merit to students of Nalanda School, Byculla for participation in Quiz. 2:15pm to 3:15pm. • 03rd November : ShriParitosh Joshi, CEO, Star CJ teleshopping channel speaks on “Changing face of business with e-commerce”. •  10th November : Guru Nanak Jayanti – Bank holiday. No meeting •  14th November : Quiz: “Gandhi & 4-way Test”: Awarding Certificate of Merit to students of Maratha MandirBabasahebGawde School, BBD Chawl, Worli, for participation in Quiz. •  17th November : ShriJaiprakash Kabra, renowned management expert, speaks on “Emotional Intelligence”. •  24th November : ShriZafarIqbal, IAS – speaks on “Indian Muslims are Nationalist Indians”.
