  2. Significance of title Mr.Lorry the Manettes and mr.Stryver are all offering their congratulations to Mr.Darnay for being acquitted

  3. Characters Characters: Mr. Lorry, Dr and Lucie Manette, Charles Darnay, Mr. Carton

Summary • Mr. Lorry and the Manette’s are offering Mr. Darnay their congratulations on being acquitted. • Dr.Manette is starting to be seen as a citizen and he starting to regain his humanity but he is still not like he was before he was thrown in jail • Charles Darnay tells Mr. Stryver that he is forever in his debt • Charles kisses Miss Manette on the hand and the Manette’s leave • Mr. Lorry ask Darnay why Mr.Carton was there as he should not have been at the courthouse • Mr.Carton (who is Drunk) invites Darnay to dinner • There Mr.Carton talks to Mr. Darnay about his newfound love for Lucie • Darnay thanks Mr.Carton for his help in the days happening and goes on his way

Literary Devices Foreshadowing:Winding-sheet in the Candle A winding-sheet in the candle is a omen for death so it probably is signifying Mr.Cartons live may soon be over Alliteration: “Then why the devil don't you dine” Charles is talking about about being faint from the trial and how he was just acquitted from this awful crime and he just wants to get back into the world and live his life again but Carton makes a joke and says if you’re faint you should eat Imagery: “The lights were nearly all extinguished in the passages, the iron gates were being closed with a jar and a rattle, and the dismal place was deserted until to-morrow morning’s interest of gallows, pillory, whipping-post, and branding-iron”. Mr.Darnay is stuck in the courthouse till tomorrow when another person is tried and possible publicly killed.
