  2. Checklists • Do you really mean a checklist. • Yes, just like a pilot will use before take off. • Why • So that repetitive mundane tasks do not get forgotten. • So that when audited there is proof of these items being check. • DBA’s are human.

  3. Checklists for What? • In my opinion everything you can. • Calendar based tasks • Audits (Security, DDL,ect.) • Schema Changes • Installs and configurations • Replication setup • Trouble Shoot • Baseline • When you start a new position

  4. What not to put into a Checklist • Anything that you have automated, and is stable. • H2 Example • Microsoft MOM • Other performance tools.

  5. Don’t forget Management Checklists • Performance Reviews • Code Reviews • Team Building

  6. Ways to Remember • Calendar Items • Tasks lists • Share Point • Good Old Fashion Desk Calendar

  7. Example: • Daily Checklist • Check the error logs • Check the disk space • Check job failures • Check your backups completed • Re-indexes • DBCC’s

  8. Who should do the checklist • Creations should be done from experiences and Sr. DBA’s • Everyone in my opinion. • I believe this is a great place to get Jr. DBA’s started.
