  6. Hypothesis • I thought Jimmy Carter had started the Habitat for Humanity. • After research, I was proved wrong.

  7. Jimmy’s Birth • Jimmy was born on October 1, 1924 in Plains, Georgia. • James Earl was his given name at birth.

  8. His Nickname • At age 7 James gave himself the nickname Jimmy.

  9. His Family • Jimmy was the oldest of four brothers.

  10. The Navy • Jimmy enrolled in the U.S. Naval Academy in 1943. • In 1953 Jimmy resigned from the Navy because of his father’s death.

  11. The Election • Carter won the 1976 presidential election.

  12. Jimmy’s Presidential Facts • Jimmy vowed to never lie in his presidential reign and kept his promise. • He was the first southerner elected president since the Civil War.

  13. The Nobel Peace Prize • Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

  14. After the Presidency • In 1983 Carter published his autobiography Keeping the Faith. • After returning to Plains Jimmy took over the family peanut business. • The peanut business thrived under his management.

  15. Death • Not! Carter is still alive today. • Carter is now 82 years old and is very healthy!
