  2. What is SALTI • Community of pedagogical researchers • Pan University • Cross Faculty approach • Collegial interactions promoting collaboration and training • Supported by the proctors Office • Financial support • Administrative support • Strategic support

How is SALTI organized? • Led by a Director and Deputy Director (Dr. Jon Issberner and Prof. Ruth Woodfield) • Activity and strategy informed by the community of researchers through a steering group • Thematic Organization of research • e-Learning currently led by Margaret Adamson (Head Learning Technology and IT Skills Development) • Assessment currently led by Mike Oram (DoT Psychology & Neuroscience) • ?Curriculum design possibility • Linked to, and working with, the Proctors team in the Proctors Office • Does not subsume any existing pedagogical research groups, however….. • Does support by providing a platform for dissemination • Does welcome them to collaborate outside their group through SALTI

Creating and supporting a community of pedagogical researchers • Thematic organisation • Provides an accessible community • Promotes collaboration • Provides a knowledge base through the aggregation of projects • Cuts across Faculties • Advocating for pedagogical research at the central University level • Reinforcing positive attitudes towards the value of pedagogical research and the staff engaged in it • Annual Pedagogical Research Conference • Showcasing our research to the sector • Celebrating success • Seed funding research

What we have done so far • Annual conference in July • 8 research talks • Café Style workshop to explore how SALTI should be formed and what the community needs form it • First SALTI / Enhancement Theme project award • Award winner was DrStefan Pulver (Psychology and Neuroscience) • Project Entitled • ‘Collaborating with Masters Students to create new technologies for teaching’ • Two Research Themes • E - Learning • Assessment • Training in Pedagogical Research Techniques

Initial Training in Pedagogical Research Techniques • 5 Initial Tutorial events planned • Literature review • Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed methodologies • Statistics and Experimental Design • Ethics and UTREC in Pedagogical research • New Projects at St Andrews – tips, tricks and pitfalls Format will be 1 hour lunchtime sessions they will be both webinars and personal attendance Sessions will be recorded, edited and then provided on the website as a resource A second wave of sessions are planned (following consultation), either covering more advanced issues, or providing more depth on the above
