  2. Purpose of the Standard Work Combination Table Efficiency Improvement tool used in processes where Team Members and Machines interact. 1. Used in planning and for efficiency improvements in processes where Team Members and Machines interact. 2. Used to identify the combination of team member work and machine processing time to improve efficiency.

  3. Introduction to the Standard Work Combination Table: • In many cases, Team Members and machinery share the same work area. In cases such as this, one Team Member may be responsible for operating one or more machines during a cycle. • Typically found in a body shop, but can be found anywhere there is subassembly work taking place. • The Standard Work Combination Table Tool is the tool used to collect and analyze the interface of Team Members and machines. • The Standard Work Combination Table Tool allows the recorder to identify areas for improvement by visualizing production wastes in the process. (e.g. when team member work time is halted or delayed by machine work time, it creates a situation of “built in” interference in the cycle or a waste of “wait time”).

  4. Standard Work Combination Table Tool: • When used properly the combination table tool: • Visualizes the interface between Team Member work and machine work to minimize wait time. • Visualizes overall Team Member \ Machine Cycle Time • Determines the number of processes a Team Member could possibly manage in a given Target Cycle Time

  5. When to initiate a Work Combination Tool: • Station planning and review • To implement station improvements: • - Continuous Improvement • - Problem Solving solutions • - Control of work flow and work load • - When Planning a balancing/rebalancing activity

  9. Using the Standard Work Combination Tool: Nothing but the best for our customers - let’s do our best together -

  10. Using the Standard Work Combination Tool: Use tool to identify interference caused by long machine times AFTER C.I.: Wait time eliminated by improving machine time. BEFORE C.I.: Wait time due Team Member waiting for machine to cycle.

  11. Using the Standard Work Combination Tool: Use the tool to identify areas where additional automation may be needed. AFTER C.I.: Part ejector installed eliminating one complete step and all wait time. Before C.I.: Wait time in two places caused by unloading of machine.

  12. Using the Standard Work Combination Tool: Use tool to identify changes needed in machine sequence of operation. AFTER C.I.: Wait time eliminated by changing sequence of operation: (Machine #5 then Machine #4) BEFORE C.I.: Wait time caused by sequence of operation: (Machine #4 then Machine #5)

  13. Using the Standard Work Combination Tool: Use tool to identify wait time caused by not having WIP applied. AFTER CI: Wait time eliminated by loading parts into WIP and not waiting for machine to cycle. BEFORE CI: Team Member waiting for machine to cycle to retrieve parts for next operation.

  14. Using the Standard Work Combination Tool: Use tool to visualize over cycleconditions. AFTER C.I.: After all improvements are complete, Actual Cycle Time is lower than Target Cycle time. BEFORE C.I.: Actual Cycle Time is longer than Target Cycle Time,
