Secondary Dual Educator Program Candidates enter our graduate program with a BA/BS in a content area with 3.0 GPA and passing scores on subject area tests Program length: Fall 2013 start; over two academic years with experience in both general and special education classrooms every term; a 1-month break in Summer 2014 Teacher candidates earn: • Master’s Degree • Initial license at the middle/secondary level • Endorsements in your content area and special education

  10. Next steps: • Schedule appointment with your department advisor. • Register for the tests. • Order 2 sets of official transcripts. • Acquire experience with adolescents! Volunteer in schools and with kids with learning differences! • Download reference form and give to 3 people to write you a letter of reference for application and scholarships. • Start working on your personal statement. • Make sure to save your application in Tk20 often. Only click submit when everything is done. Those who submit applications by February 1, 2013 will receive an admission decision by March 22nd..

Apply for Financial Aid now • Financial aid • http://www.pdx.edu/finaid • TEACH grants • The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program provides up to $4,000 per year in grants for graduate and undergraduate students who intend to teach full-time as a highly qualified teacher in high-need subject areas for at least four years at schools that serve students from low-income families. Transition Grant • Description: • Federal grant that adds transition planning experiences working with high need youth to the SDEP curriculum • SDEPers who choose to participate receive $7,000-$9,000 each year if they commit to attend coursework and transition planning team experiences with youth over the 2 years • Participants are obligated to work in SPED for a minimum of 51% for 4 years after program completion • Link to project description - http://schoolofed.wordpress.com/2011/10/14/gse-awarded-1-2-million-for-new-program-to-prepare-professionals-to-serve-high-needs-youth/#more-2029
