Older Americans are on the move.Throughout the Midwest and the North-east, people aged 60 and over are packing their bags and heading south along the freeway to states like Florida. For some of this people, the move is permanent and year-round, but for others, it is only seasonal. • 3.In fact, according to the national population survey conducted in 200,Florida was home to the largest population of people aged 65 and older.(P18Lines8-10) • 事实上,根据2000年(美国)人口普查,佛罗里达州是最多的65岁及其以上的年龄的人口。

  28. 4. This group account for nearly 18 percent of the state’s population. The national average was only 13 per cent, So it is not surprising that Florida’s Charlotte County is known as the oldest place in the USA. 因此也就不奇怪佛罗里达州的夏洛特县北被认为是美国最老的地方 • 5.The question is, though, why are so many people retiring and spending their pensions in Florida.? People give a varity of reasons, from wanting better health care to looking for communities of older people. • 6.That’s why moving somewhere warmer makes sense.

  29. 7.Most US citizens retire around the age of 62,which is the national minimum retirement age. • 8.As the number of older Americans moving there increase, more changes are made to cater to them. • 9.For example, ambulance response time has decreased and many houses have bathrooms designed for elderly homeowners with things like walk-in bathtubs that reduce the risk of slips and falls.(P18-P19Lines20-22) • 例如急救车反应的时间加快了(缩短了),许多房子有专为老年业主设计的浴室,配有如步入式浴盆的设备以减少摔倒的危险。

  30. 9…because the community understands the needs of older people.(P19Line30) • ….. • 10.Recently,there has been a boom in population mobility,…(P19Line35) • 最近,流动人口的激剧增长,…… • 11.Now,all the young people—even my own flesh and blood—move away.(P19Lines41-42) • 现在,所有的年轻人----甚至我自己的亲人----都搬走了。 • 12.Some are looking for a good job,and some seek excitement.(P19Lines44-45) • 有些人在寻找好的工作,而有些人寻找刺激。 • 13.The one thing that is clear,however,is that young people are speaking with one voice,“To the cities!”(P19Lines45-46) • 但有一件事是明确的,那就是年轻人异口同声地说,“到城市去!” • 14. Maybe Ill move to a small town when my partner and I get married, but for now, I want to have fun.

  31. 14. Maybe Ill move to a small town when my partner and I get married, but for now, I want to have fun. • 15.Angela, 21, adds, I’d love to stay in the community where I grew up, but there are no career opportunities there. • 16.I have to go where the big companies are because I want to be a top accountant, not a database clerk. That’s why I’ll move to Los Angeles when I graduate from university.

  32. Discussion Which city will you choose to stay when you graduate from the university, the big cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Hongkong ... or small ones like our hometown? Why?

  33. Homework:Writing According to the discussion just now and the chart below, please write a passage about ‘Living In The City’ . Your own opinion should be included. Recently, our class have had a heated discussion about whether we should live in the city. The opinions are divided into two parts.

  34. Recently, our class have had a heated discussion about whether we should live in the city. The opinions are divided. Some of my classmates are in favour of living in the city. Firstly, there are more career opportunities in big cities which they think are very important to their future development. Because big companies have their headquarters located in big cities. Secondly, they think living in a big city is very comfortable. For one thing, it is convenient to take a bus or a taxi. On top of these, cities have parks, restaurants and other entertainment places where they can seek excitement. But small towns have none of these.

  35. However, some other students hold a different opinion. They think the expenses of living are high in big cities. Furthermore, big cities are very crowded with too many people. The air is polluted which contributes to the poor living environment. As far as I’m concerned, every coin has two sides. But no matter where we live, we should work hard, protect our natural environment and save energy. Let’s fill the world with love.

  36. Goodbye!
