  1. Watson and Crick’s Determination of the Structure of DNA By: Nathan Dean Period: 6th Teacher: Mrs.Baker

  2. What is DNA? • DNA which stands for deoxyribonucleic acid, is the genes that develop and function with all known living organisms without the exception of viruses. • For an example, if you get arrested, the police might take a DNA sample from you such as a string of hair, blood sample, just to find your identity and all of the things about your body. • When you look at a picture of DNA, DNA looks like a curved ladder.

  3. James Dewey Watson • James Dewey Watson was born on April 6, 1928. • Watson is an American molecular biologist and zoologist. • Watson was awarded the Nobel Prize in Psychology or Medicine alongside with Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins. • Watson was a co-discoverer of the structure of DNA with Francis Crick.

  4. Francis Crick • Francis Crick was born June 8, 1916 in Weston Favell, Northamptonshire in England. • Crick was a English molecular biologist and a physicist • Co-discoverer of the structure of DNA with James Dewey Watson. • Also famous for discovering that cells flow essentially one way, from DNA to RNA to protein. • Francis Crick died July 28, 2004 at the age of 88 in San Diego, California due to Colon cancer.

  5. Watson and Crick’s Discovery • Many people believe that Watson and Crick were the men that discovered the DNA and how it functions, that is incorrect! • DNA was discovered way back in 1860s by a Swiss chemist named Friedrech Mistier. • Watson and Crick were the men that concluded in 1953 that the DNA molecules exist in the form of a three-dimensional double helix.

  6. BYE BYE! • Thank you for watching and listening to my slide show about the history of Watson and Crick, and the achievements they’ve accomplished, and information on DNA. • Information found from wikipedia.org and biography.com • This has been a presentation by Nathan Dean!
