  2. Monday, September 27 • Objective: Student knows the interactions of humans within habitats, ecosystems and biomes. • Focus: Compare and contrast “wants” and “needs” . What does it take to lead the “good life”? • Activity: Our quest for “The Good Life” • Get out a sheet of paper, fold in half lengthwise. • Follow directions on pages 60 and 61. • Complete today, turn in for grade. Be sure your name is on paper. • Complete scavenger hunt.. Measure the tree. Turn in paper for scavenger hunt. We will discuss this and do an activity with your findings. • Homework: Current Event • Look for a current event within the past month that has to do with environmental systems and overcrowding or overpopulations by humans or other animals. Write one or two paragraphs describing how it affects the environment. Is it a good effect or bad effect? • Use local newspaper to do this activity. • Please use proper grammar and punctuation. If I cannot read your handwriting, please type your paragraphs.

Tuesday September 28 • Objective: Student will diagram abiotic cycles, including the rock, hydrologic, carbon and nitrogen cycles. • Focus: Why is “recycling” in nature important? • What does finite mean? • Activity: Draw the Earth, rock, hydrologic, carbon and nitrogen cycle in your spiral. • Pages 73, 74, 75 and 131 (rock) in your notes. • Use colored pencils to help show the flow of energy in these drawings. Be very neat. This is a grade.

Wednesday, September 29 • Objective: Student will be able to identify a food chain and predict the order of population sizes. • Focus: How will the introduction of or removal of an invasive species alter the food chain and affect existing populations in an ecosystem? • Activity: In your NOTES, answer the questions on page 71. • Lab: Draw a basic food chain See book page 69 for an idea. Be sure to show the flow of energy between organisms. • Group discussion ** put food chain on board. • Homework: Make sure you have your spiral, binder, and folder (in the class color). Final grade on these for six weeks Friday Oct 1.

Thursday, September 30 • Objective: The student will differentiate between energy “lost” and energy retained in the various levels of a food chain. • Focus: What is efficiency in a natural system? Read pages…102-103. • Activity: Review for exam on Friday. • Take notes. Be sure everyone has complete understanding of the concepts. • Homework: Current Event due Friday – no late homework. • Look for a current event within the past month that has to do with environmental systems and populations. Write one or two paragraphs describing how it affects the environment. Is it a good effect or bad effect? • Homework due Friday at beginning of class. Be sure your name is on it. There will be a spiral check during the exam.

  6. Friday, October 1 • Objective: Student will be able to show mastery of the concepts of biomes, ecosystems and ecology. • Focus: Get out pencil • Activity : Exam • After turning in exam, start with page 80…. Read about kinetic and potential energy. • Turn in homework – current event.
