Division of Labor • Classic Issue: • Adam Smith: efficiency through specialization (capitalism). • Karl Marx: exploitation through specialization (capitalism). • Durkheim: different approach • Arises with social density (capitalism or socialism) • It’s a puzzle: it can’t be simply contractual. There must be non-utilitarian foundation.
