  2. Power Point Presentations • Every student has to do several power point presentations in college • Most of you already know the basic skills to making a power point presentation • However, good power point presentations are rare

  3. A Good Presentation • Has a title slide, outline slide, and a conclusion slide • Use appropriate backgrounds and fonts • Present material in a succinct yet clear manner (don’t write out paragraphs of words, and yet give more than just one word) • Interlace challenging or more serious content with graphics, summary/outline slides, and pertinent pictures

  4. A Bad Presentation (at least at the college level) • Has text that you have trouble reading, possibly because of bad background or font color! • Uses annoying animation or sound (I know it’s tempting to make presentations fun, but many professors do not appreciate it!) • Has inappropriate or unnecessary clip art (some pictures are good, but don’t force the issue!!! • Write out the exact words that you say even things like “Joke goes here” • Is too long or too short (even if the instructor doesn’t care when you go over your allotted time, other students will want to hurt you!) • Has gramatikal errors, weird, punctution, and miscellaneous Capitalization.

  5. Today’s Assignment on Half the Sky • Since Half the Sky is your reading assignment for this year, we will integrate into this activity: • Make a 3-4 minute power point presentation on the life of your groups’ selected woman discussed in Half the Sky • Follow some of the guidelines I gave you, and also think about other things that make a good/bad presentation • Include at least 1 slide in this presentation that outlines one or two that the authors suggested the Western world could do to prevent future situations like the ones these people encountered (if your person did do things to help, you can just outline how others can join in) • A few groups will present. If you’d like, make the presentation mostly professional, with a few bad things thrown in (so that we can point out the mistakes )

  6. Women to Choose From • Edna Adan (pages 123-130) • Jane Roberts (pages 146-148) • SakenaYacobi (pages 162-165) • Dai Manju (pages 167-170) • GorettiNyabenda (pages 199-203) • Murvelene Clarke (pages 212-215) • Molly Melching (pages 224-229) • JordanaConfino (230-232) • SreyRath (Introduction) • MeenaHassina (pages 3-16) • SreyNeth & Momm (pages 35-45) • UshaNarayane (pages 47-53) • SunithaKrishan (pages 56-60) • WoinshetZebene (pages 62-66) • Mukhtar Mai (pages 70-79) • Dina (pages 84-87) • Harper McConnell (pages 88-92) • Prudence Lemokouno (pages 109-117) • Ann Cotton & Angeline Mugwendere (pages 179-183) • Saima Muhammad & RoshanehZafar (pages 185-192)
