  1. Orientation to the Activity Tracker

  2. Thank you for joining Active U! This presentation has been developed to orient you to the Active U Activity Tracker. On the next slide is a list of Contents. You can either view the complete presentation or click on the item that you are interested in. This presentation focuses on the Activity Tracker, so we would suggest that you also read and refer to the FAQ section in either the Active U website (activeu.uvic.ca) or the Activity Tracker. We do not expect that having viewed this presentation, you will have all of the answers, so feel free to contact us at activeu@uvic.ca.

  4. The first step in registering for Active U is to visit the Active U website at http://activeu.uvic.ca. To start your virtual trek around Vancouver Island, click on Getting Started.

  5. Under the Registering menu item, you will see the the words click here. By clicking these words, you will be taken to the Activity Tracker.

  6. The Activity Tracker home page looks like this. In the LOGIN box, you will see the words First time logging in? and Register Here. Please click on Register Here.

  7. Once you have clicked Register Here you will see the following registration screen. This screen asks for required and optional information. Information that is required is noted with a red asterick (*). Please note that the main administrator and Team Leads (if you join a team) will have access to the information you provide. For your Username and Password please DO NOT use your NetLink information. The last line of the form contains a check box that states “I have read and understood the PARQ”. To view the PARQ, click on PARQ.

  8. Once you have completed the Registration Page, you will come back to the Activity Tracker log-in page. Now that you have registered, in the LOGIN box enter your Username and Password and click on Log in. You will follow this same login procedure every time you enter the Activity Tracker. If you forget your Password, See Forgot Password and click on Click Here. If you forget your Username, email us at activeu@uvic.ca.

  9. If you have correctly entered your Username and Password, you will first see a pop-up menu containing a wellness tips. If you have made a mistake in entering either your Username or Password, you will see the pop-up menu, followed by the log-in page. At the top of the log-in page you will see: Invalid Username and/or Password at the top of the screen. To log-in, re-enter your Username and Password.

After the pop-up, you will see the main page which contains: • the toolbar • your Map • Your Stats, and • your Step History • As you add your steps and other activities, you will notice that the red dot inside the yellow star will turn into a red line and will follow the green line around Vancouver Island.

  11. The Toolbar provides you with easy access to helpful resources to assist you. Some of the information is the same as the Active U website (eg. FAQs, Pedometers) while some is not. • The Toolbar also allows you to view: • Group (or Team) Maps, to see the progress of the Active U Teams on their joint trek around Vancouver Island (based on average steps), and, • Group (or Team) Activity, which compares the activity of the Active U Teams based on the percentage of active team members.

  12. To the right of your map, you will see Your Stats section. • It provides a summary of your: • Total Steps Taken, • Total Days Stepping, • Average Steps Per Day, • Average km Per Day and • Total km Walked • The boxes below this are where you enter your steps and other activities.

  13. To enter your daily steps: • Use the pull down menu to enter the correct date in Activity Date • Enter your steps in the Enter Steps box (do not use commas) • Click on the Submit Steps button. • To enter another activity: • Use the pull down menu to enter the correct date in Activity Date • Select the activity from the Select Activity pull down menu. Please note that while the activities are listed in alphabetical order, some entries contain more than one activity (eg. Tai Chi/Yoga/Pilates or Hiking/Rock Climbing). • Click on the circle indicating the amount of time you performed the activity (to the nearest ½ hour). If you performed an activity for more than 2 hours, simply enter the activity twice. • Click on the circle indicating the intensity (Mild, Med, Intense) that you performed the activity at. • Click on the Submit Activity button • Multiple entries can be made per day and • multiple days worth of steps can be added at one time • (using the appropriate Activity Date).

  14. Once your account has been established, you can edit your account at any time by clicking on Edit User Info. • Reasons that you may want to edit your account information include: • changing your password if you have used your NetLink information • joining a team • changing or deleting the optional fields • correcting typos

  15. To join a team, click on the blue arrow on the Groups field in the Edit User Info box (see previous slide) . When you do this, a pull-down menu will appear. Select the appropriate Team Name from the pull-down menu. Remember that required information is noted with a red asterick (*). If you make any changes on this page, ensure that you click Update Information, or your changes will not be saved.

  16. If you have successfully added yourself to a Team, you should notice a change to your Toolbar. Your Team Name (in this case Test), should appear on the top menu line of the Toolbar. Your toolbar may also contain references to other team specific pages (in this example Page 1, Page 2 and Page 3). If you require more information on this, contact your Team Lead or email us at activeu@uvic.ca.

  17. If you want to review how you have done over the last 7 days, 30 days or since you started, you can do this in the Steps History box. The default setting is to display your steps for the Last 7 days. Click on Last 30 days to see your last 30 days and All Steps to see your steps since you started.

  18. Additionally, if you are a member of a Team and you login and see a layout such as this, please contact your Team Lead. This change has occurred as a result of some additional information that your Team Lead has added to your team specific pages.
