Odd bounce scatters are those where: 1) the orientation angle of the scattered wave polarization (yr) increases as the orientation of the transmitted wave polarization(yt) increases and, 2) where the handedness of the scattered wave is the opposite of the of that of the transmitted wave (handedness is defined as the wave is moving away from the observer). For example, the sign of the ellipticity angle (c) of the scattered wave would be opposite of the transmitted wave, that is, a left handed elliptically polarized wave would be teturned as a right-handed oriented wave.

Even bounce scatters: are those where 1) the orientation of the scattered wave polarization increases as the orientation angle of the transmitted wave polarization decreases and 2) where the handedness of the scattered wave is the same as that of the transmitted wave.

Diffuse Scatters: are those where 1) the orientation angle of the scattered wave polarization increases as the orientation angle of the transmitted wave polarization increases and 2) where the handedness of the scattered wave is the same as that of the transmitted wave.
