    6. To comply with the law, information must be collected and used fairly, stored safely and not disclosed to any other person unlawfully. To do this researchers must comply with the Data Protection Principles which are set out in the Data Protection Act, 1998. The DPA applies to anyone holding information about living individuals in electronic format and in some cases on paper. They must follow the eight data protection principles of good information handling. To comply with the law, information must be collected and used fairly, stored safely and not disclosed to any other person unlawfully. To do this researchers must comply with the Data Protection Principles which are set out in the Data Protection Act, 1998.
