  3. Specifics Applications Cartography Mails  Web Tools Mobiles Networks Civil PSTN Switches Internet Satellites Links Applications/IP/Access Mail GIS IPFN Services APPLICATIONS VOICE Video IT I.P. Network ACCESS

  4. The IP Federating Network (IPFN) • An IP ‘ Virtual Private Network ’, with specific Sub Systems connected to it, interconnecting the Wireless (and fixed) accesses for Voice and Data and offering levels of Services • The IPFN shall allow Voice and Data communication VPNs features to share INFORMATION and garantee Security • The IPFN shall offer new Services to the users • The IPFN shall allow interworking • Different ‘ functionnal ’ sub systems are added • mapped to a scalable hardware configuration • Fully digital, where ‘ Voice is Data ’ • Legacy systems into account

  5. Services offered (notion of Levels) • Voice services • Data services (SMS…) • Mobility services (MIP…) • Security services (IPSec, PKI, L2TP,Policy...) • Directory and @dressing services • QoS services • Priority services • Translation services (information format, language…) • Web - Application services • Administration services (SNMP…) • Interoperability services (to SAT, UMTS…) • Localisation services (GIS, GPS…)

  6. IPFN Architecture Network A Proxy Redirect Server MCU GW_nwkA IP VPN Registration Server Security Server Management Directory SERVER Radio access Radio access

  7. Functional sub systems • Call handling • Security, QoS… • Radio, Line Access…. • The Directory server (LDAP…) • MCU (Media Conferencing Unit) • DNS (@dressing…) • Translation, Application server (IT) • Network Management • Gateways • VoIP interface: MEGACO/MGCP-ETSI/TIPHON - Voice over IP • VPN gateways-Firewalls

  8. IP technology enabled • Voice over IP • SIP based • XML based • IP addressing • With QoS, Priority mechanisms • ………... • Control rooms/dispatch are fully integrated as IT systems (SOAP…) • ‘ Light ’terminals • ………... • With Security (IPSec, SIM…)

GCR:Group Call Register. GCR* Mobile Station The RS is seen as a set of IP subscribers hiding the Radio specificities of the mobiles

  10. Functional units...methodology (UML, SDL…) • The functional services are distributed in functional units: • Call control • Call user agent • Call proxy server • Call gateway • Call media conference function • Data • Data user agent • Data proxy server • Data gateway • Directory • Directory server • Directory client Scalability

  11. Functional architecture • User agent • Call proxy redirect server • Data proxy/redirect server • Call Gateway to external network • Data Gateway to external network • Media conference unit • Home mobility server • Visitor mobility server • Security server • Directory server • Operational and Network management
