  7. WHEN? When support from the administration and leadership is present. When there is a need for this type of journal. When at least part of the existing infrastructure necessary for the journal is in place.

GROUP COLLABORATION AND DISCUSSION • Thinking of Starting a Journal: • Do you have the resources to start a journal right now? • If so, what are some key resources that will help you do this? • If not, what do you need? • How might you build up an infrastructure from what you have currently in place? • What needs would a journal fill for you? • Why? • How? • Are in the Process of Starting a Journal: • Do you have all the support and infrastructure in place already? • If not, what are some challenges you have faced in the process of starting the journal? • What resources might you develop and how? • Who is your target audience? • Why? • How will you reach them? • Is the journal sustainable in terms of indirect and direct costs/resources? • Have a Journal Already in Place: • What were some challenges you faced when starting an undergraduate research journal? • What are some of the best practices that helped you establish a journal? • What would you do differently? • What audience(s) does it serve? • How does the scholarship contribute to respective research fields? • How do students and faculty mentors benefit? • How is the faculty mentor’s work evaluated in annual review?
