  1. Directions: Please come in and get your journal and clicker. On your next blank page, write today’s date on the top line. Title this page ~ Ordering and Converting Fractions to Decimals. Below the date, write the Challenge Question. Challenge Question: Which part of a whole makes “cents” to you? Friday, Sept. 6, 2013 Warm-up (independent, level 0 noise): Please complete this in your journal below the CQ Evaluate the following problem: 8² - (5-2)³ + 3(4) Evaluate the expression for n=11: 3n²

  2. Fraction, Decimal, Percent Conversions Foldable • Pick on colored paper from the center of your table. • You will also need a pair of scissors and a glue stick from the supply box. • Wait for further instructions.

  3. Ordering Fractions on a Number Line • Draw a number line on your white board with an expo marker. 1 0 • With your group, order the following benchmark fractions on your number line: 1/2, 3/4, 2/4, 1/4, 1/3, 2/3

  4. Ordering Fractions on a Number Line • Now, with your group, try and add the following fractions to your existing number line: 1/8, 2/8, 3/8, 4/8, 5/8, 6/8, 7/8, 8/8

  5. Converting Fractions to Decimals • In your journal, convert these fractions to decimals: 1/2, 3/4, 2/4, 1/4, 1/3, 2/3 *Remember: the fraction bar means divide.* Ex. 1/2 is 1 divided by 2

  6. Converting Fractions to Decimals Let’s try some harder ones: • 1/8 • 3/8 • 7/8

  7. Just for Me • Work pages 15 and 49 in your practice book. Once you are finished, answer the challenge question in your journal. • Once everyone is finished, we will go over the correct answers and share our thoughts on the challenge question.
