  2. What are the effects of rust on the human skin? It is a disease • Damage from rust interacts with the cell membrane, and it damages the cell • If u get punctured by something rusty you will get tetanus • Tetanus is also known as lockjaw, because one of the first symptoms is a muscle contraction in the area around the mouth. • Those muscle contractions can spread throughout the body, sometimes resulting in spasms so intense that they cause fractures.

  3. What would happen if you get punctured with something rusty? • Without treatment, one out of three people die from tetanus. • You will get muscle spasms and when you don’t treat it then your whole body will freeze up. • The symptoms usually start to appear one week after infection, though they may appear as soon as a few days after, or even a few weeks after infection

  4. Steps to take before you go to the emergency room • You need to wash the affected area immediately with soap and water • Then you need to make certain that your tetanus shot is up to date • If your not up to date on your tetanus shot then you should cover the wound with a clean dry piece of gauze and seek medical attention for a booster shot of tetanus to protect you

  5. Treatment for tetanus • A tetanus shot would be in order • The tetanus toxin causes no permanent damage to the nervous system after the patient recovers. • The tetanus disease does not provide natural immunization against a repeat episode. • Generally children start taking tetanus shots at 2 months of age and is completed at 5 years of age. • Booster vaccination is recommended at 11 years of age • Follow-up booster vaccination is recommended every 10 years thereafter

  6. Facts about tetanus. • It is a world wide thing of course and it happens most frequent in hot and damp places. • It is a fatal disease caused by a type of bacteria called clostridium tetani. • Tetanus is often enter the body through puncture wounds, which can be caused by nails, splinters, insect bites, burns, any skin-break and injection-drug sites
