  1. NWTC Early Childhood Giving Credit Where Credit is Due

  2. Brief History • NWTC Associate Degree program is 12 years old • As CPL requests increased, we looked for a way to build in consistency. • For the past five years: “Experienced Teacher Fast Track” system, developed by the EC Team • Now: Credit for Prior Learning Course (3 credits)

  3. Experienced Teacher Fast Track • Very individualized • Rated learners in nine areas of competence • Allowed us to be consistent • Took advantage of The Registry, an organization that by law, collects professional development information for child care workers. • Extremely time consuming and difficult to compensate faculty. The process was still too slow.

  4. Collaborative Effort • Wisconsin Early Childhood Association • Wisconsin Council for Children and Families • WTCS Colleges, especially NWTC, MATC-Milwaukee, Madison College, and Blackhawk • Mary Beth Boettcher complied material, built course in the Blackboard System and now is electronically available to all.

  5. EC-CPL Competencies 1. Access available college support. 2. Analyze professionalism 3. Identify Core abilities 4. Examine Competencies • Examine Program courses. • Compare what they know • Create their Action Plan for obtaining credit

  6. Our Goals • Learners will be able to maximize the amount of legitimate credit they are eligible for. • Credit awarded will be consistent and fair. • Learner productivity will be maximized (student perspective) • Learning productivity will be maximized (college perspective)
