  2. Build It Bigger and Better • With advancements in human technology comes bigger and better projects of mankind • We have “one speech” – the Internet • We have a global economy • The danger accompanying this is pride

  3. Background • Noah’s family was to spread out over the earth after the flood (Gen. 8:17; 9:1) • They chose to stay together instead (Gen. 11:1-2) • Building a tower was not wrong, but their motive of pride was (Gen. 11:3-4) • Their scattering was a punishment of God (Gen. 11:5-9)

Babel: the Unfinished Tower • Their wisdom was advanced, but they did not use it to the glory of God (1 Cor. 1:18ff) • Their humanism (“come let us”) dethroned God and exalted themselves (Dan. 4:34ff; Lk. 12:16ff) • Their pride lead to their fall (Jer. 10:23; Obad. 3-4; Jer. 49:16) • Their work was seen and punished by God (Prov. 15:3; Heb. 4;13)

  5. Pride in the NT • Jews rejected Jesus because of pride (Jn. 12:43) • Herod’s pride lead to his fall (Acts 12:20-23) • Pride caused the Gentiles to fall (Rom. 1:30) • Laodicean Christians were proud (Rev. 3:17) • Pride leads to apostasy (2 Tim. 3:2-3)

Lessons Learned • God’s commands are always in our best interest (Eccl. 12:13-14) • Human ingenuity and technology are often abused and misused (Gen. 10:8-12; Rom. 1:25) • Pride leads to a fall (Prov. 16:18) • God’s plans will not be frustrated (Isa. 55:8-11) • The fear of man will befall him (Phil. 2:9-10)
