  2. INTRODUCTION • Coronal polishing is a technique used to remove plaque and stains from the coronal surfaces of the teeth. • It is important to understand the difference between coronal polishing and a dental prophylaxis, which is also known as a cleaning to remove calculus.

  3. BENEFITS OF CORONAL POLISHING • Fluorides are better accepted into the enamel. • Polishing prepares the teeth for placement of dental sealants. • Smooth tooth surfaces are easier for the patient to keep clean.

  4. INDICATIONS • Before placement of dental sealants • Before placement of the dental dam • Before application of topical fluoride • Before cementation of orthodontic bands • Before cementation of crowns and bridges

  5. CONTRAINDICATIONS • When no stain is present • Patients who are at high risk for dental caries. • Sensitive Teeth • Newly erupted teeth
